PARTNER UNFCU WINS 2009 QUEENS CHAMBER OF COMMERCE OVERALL AWARD FOR EXCELLENCE AND DESIGN

LONG ISLAND CITY, NY (January 12, 2010) Having built its new headquarters Court Square Place and relocated from Manhattan in December 2006, the United Nations Credit Union (UNFCU) helped further the development of the Long Island City Business District. With 300 staff now under one roof, UNFCU achieved greater efficiencies to serve its global membership.

It can also now claim top honors from the Queens Chamber of Commerce Annual Building Awards held recently in Flushing, NY. Court Square Place also won in the “New Construction Office Building” category for Excellence and Design. There were 100 total entries.

The Queens Chamber of Commerce recognized UNFCU, as well as Tishman Construction Group, its builder/contractor firm, and HLW International LLP, architect. Eco-friendly with an aluminum and glass curtain wall, the construction is of braced steel, clad in flamed granite panels with polished granite accent bands.

“We are very pleased to have won this distinguished award and congratulate our partners whose creativity and hard work made it all possible,” said John Lewis, senior vice president of Corporate Affairs and General Counsel at UNFCU.

Located at 24-01 44th Road, one block from the Citicorp Tower, Court Square Place a Class-A facility, includes 17 floors and 270,000 square feet of executive office space. At the time of its construction in 2006, it was the tallest office building in 16 years to rise in Long Island City. JRT Realty Group, Inc. and Cushman & Wakefield served as the exclusive leasing and management agents.

“Court Square Place has stood out and clearly emerged as an iconic, modern office building on the Long Island City skyline,” said Greg Smith, Executive Vice President of JRT Realty Group. “Its distinct appeal, outstanding access and magnificent views have been recognized among users in an array of industries.”

In addition to the “New Construction” category, the Chamber of Commerce Borough of Queens presented awards for exterior rehabilitations, alterations and additions. This was the 83rd Year of the annual competition, which the Chamber developed to encourage the construction of attractive buildings throughout the borough.
